There are many ways of finding great incentives, whether it be online or newspaper coupons, or radio and television ads. While many people ignore these incentives, they provide great savings. Aside from deals provided in this way, there are other tips for buyers when department store shopping.

1. Buy Off-Season. Whether it’s winter, spring, summer, or fall, you’ll find a great deal of savings. It just takes thinking ahead.

2. Charge Accounts. Although economists advise against opening new charge accounts, it can save you money if used wisely. When opening a charge account you’ll get savings on your first buy. However, after that department stores are planning on you using your charge card on a regular basis which drives up your interest rate. Use your charge account on special deals held throughout the year; make sure your account is paid off monthly to avoid interest payments.

3. Buy Smart, Not Cheap. Although smart shopping means saving money, that doesn’t necessarily mean buying cheaper brands. Many times the reason a brand is cheaper is because it’s made cheaper with inferior materials. Shopping wisely also means looking for those deals that will give you quality merchandise for lower price. Dollar stores are a great place to find name brand merchandise.

It may take longer to find those wise deals, but it will save you money the next time you enjoy smart department store shopping.
